Dragon Chest Keys in the Time Rift Shop – Which Ones Are Actually Efficient?
Introduction
Dragon Crystals are one of the quiet bottlenecks in Infinity Kingdom. Portrait upgrades and dragon talents consume thousands over time, and the primary way most players accumulate them is through Dragon Chests.

Because of that, Dragon Chest Keys become an important long-term resource. You receive some keys each week from events like the Spider Boss, but the most consistent source is the Time Rift Breaker Shop.

A few patches ago, the system changed:
Keys can now be combined upward at a 2:1 ratio.
- 2 Common → 1 Uncommon
- 2 Uncommon → 1 Rare
- 2 Rare → 1 Elite
- 2 Elite → 1 Epic

This change raises an important question: which keys should you actually buy in the Rift Shop?
Let’s walk through the numbers.
Rift Shop Key Costs

Since keys combine at 2:1, we can compare the true cost of creating higher tiers.
Cost of Building an Epic Key
If we combine from lower tiers:

So the conclusion here is straightforward: If you want Epic keys, buy Epic keys directly. Every other path wastes Rift currency.
Where the Real Efficiency Appears
The interesting efficiency shows up one tier lower.
Rare Keys
- Buying a Rare key: 3400
- Making one from Uncommons:
- 2 × 1600 = 3200
You save 200 Rift currency per Rare key by buying Uncommons and combining them.

Over time this becomes significant. If you open hundreds of chests during a season, that difference compounds quickly.
Why Blue Keys Matter So Much
From actual gameplay experience, the real bottleneck tends to be Rare (Blue) keys.

Boss drops and event rewards often skew toward other tiers, which leaves many players short on blue keys when they start opening large batches of Dragon Chests. The instinct is usually to buy blue keys directly from the Rift shop. That turns out to be inefficient.
Instead: Buy Uncommon (Green) keys and combine them into Rare.
You effectively gain 200 Rift currency of value per Rare key, which adds up quickly over time!
Practical Buying Strategy
From a long-term efficiency perspective, the Rift shop strategy is simple:
Buy:
- Epic (Orange) – if you want Epics
- Uncommon (Green) – if you want to build Rare keys
Avoid buying:
- Rare (Blue)
- Elite (Purple)
- Common (Grey)
Those tiers are always less efficient compared to combining.
Because of the 2:1 key combination system, not every key tier in the Rift shop has equal value.
The most efficient purchases are:
- Epic keys when you want Epics.
- Uncommon keys when you need Rare keys.
Avoid buying Rare, Elite, or Common keys directly, since they always cost more than combining.
Over time, consistently following this approach saves a surprising amount of Rift currency — which means more keys, more Dragon Chests, and ultimately more Dragon Crystals for progression.

Upgrade costs of Dragon Portraits
Introduction Dragon Portraits are one of those systems that look underwhelming at first glance, especially when you focus on a single level upgrade. The stat gains per level are small—often just a handful of attack and defense points. For many players, especially early on, it’s easy to dismiss portraits as low priority. That’s a mistake.…

How to upgrade your dragon talents in conquest
Dragon Talent Progression (Conquest Extension Guide) Once you enter Conquest, dragon talent progression opens up again — and this is where crystal management starts to matter even more. At Dragon Level 52 and 54, you unlock: This effectively reopens the tree with the same structure, but higher stakes. The logic from Season 2 still applies…
