Double Tank Lightning (2.8.6)

Lightning marches have always had a special place in Infinity Kingdom. For a period two years ago, Double Tank Lightning dominated the meta as one of the most consistent and versatile builds in the game. While newer strategies and Chaos immortals have since overshadowed it, this build still deserves attention — especially for players who want a spender-friendly setup that doesn’t require Chaos immortals or heavy investment into legendary skills.
In this guide, we’ll revisit Double Tank Lightning, explain its strengths and weaknesses in today’s Conquest meta, and outline exactly how to build and run it effectively.
🔎 Introduction: Why Double Tank Lightning?
Double Tank Lightning is exactly what the name suggests: a Lightning march anchored by two frontline tanks that keep the backline damage dealers safe long enough to win fights.
- The tanks (Tokugawa + El Cid) bring durability, disruption, and defensive utility.
- The backline (Khan + Hammurabi) supplies a combination of physical burst and sustained magical DPS.
The result is a balanced, grindy team that can survive physical-heavy opponents and dish out dangerous counterpressure over time.
While not the absolute peak of Conquest, it remains one of the most accessible strong spender builds because it avoids Chaos immortals and focuses on obtainable pieces.
🏛️ Place in the Meta
Strengths
- Budget Friendly: No Chaos immortals or expensive legendary skills required.
- Tanky & Reliable: Double tank + defensive skills buys time for your DPS to shine.
- Flexible: Can be adapted for crit builds, hybrid setups, or sustained ramp play.
- Anti-Physical: Excels versus Alex, Hannibal, and other physical burst teams.
Weaknesses
- Mage Weakness: Fire and Water magic teams often overwhelm this setup.
- Scaling Limitations: Without Chaos skills like Energy Mastery or Infinite Firepower, damage ceiling is lower than top-tier Conquest builds.
- Skill Dependent: Needs careful skill selection (Berserk Aura, Weakness, Energy Shield) to stay competitive.
Who Should Use It?
- Mid-to-High Spenders who want a competitive but not whale-exclusive build.
- Players looking to bridge the gap into Conquest without relying on Chaos.
- Veterans nostalgic for Lightning,
- or players progressing into max Cao Cao or Fu Fei (where Double Tank Lightning gets a new power jump).
⚔️ Core Build Breakdown
Frontline – The Double Tanks
Tokugawa Ieyasu
- Specialization: Iron Will (core tank talent).
- Skills: Fountain of Life (big upgrade vs No escape enemies) alternatively Heart of Arcana, No Escape, Guard or Oaken (or mix in Weakness/Malice depending on matchup).

- Role: Primary stall tank, holding the line and disrupting enemy DPS.
El Cid
- Specialization: Iron Will.
- Skills: Physical Shield, Energy Shield, Weakening Curse.
- Role: Anti-physical wall, especially effective vs Alex/Hannibal teams.
- Note: El Cid artifacts and fragments are now easier to farm, making him more practical.
OBS: While Cid is amazing in an earth-wind based meta which you are likely in in season 2. You are going to want to replace Cid with Bjorn eventually. Use those holy/shadow chests to max Bjorn on the side.

After this we progress into possibly himiko instead of hammurabi while you build Fu Fei to complete the lightning build journey.
Backline – The Damage Dealers
Genghis Khan (Secondary DPS)
- Build Options:
- Crit Khan Build: Weakness Aura, Adrenaline Rush, with Flexible third slot: Blade Vortex, Death Breath or Anger. Can also also be upgraded with Ambush or Time to Shine if available.

- Balanced Build: Chaos Storm (if unlocked) to give both physical and magical damage support.

- Specialization: Deadly Aim (crit rate + crit damage).
- Role: Provides physical burst and wound, crit-based one-shots when lucky.
Hammurabi (Primary DPS)
- Core Skills: Corrosive Power, Psionic Tide, Infinite Firepower (if possible).

Note: If you have a maxed Himiko, she is an improvement over Hammurabi one to one. Later we will replace this slot entirely though as we move into Khan – Fu Fei, read more here.
Optional: skip Himiko if you do not spend enough to unlock and max Fu Fei run Theo instead of Hammurabi once you can max her.
- Budget Alternatives: Annihilation, Spell Disintegrator, Concentration.
- Specialization: Stormeye in combination with a Crit % artifact (for crit synergy).
- Role: The main carry in most games, scaling damage with mage skills and chaos-like combos.
🧩 Skill & Specialization Notes
- Assist + Lifelink: Older combos that helped tanks soak for the backline. Still usable, but weaker than before.
- Physical Shield: Still one of the best tank skills in the game — mandatory on El Cid.
- Weakness & Malice: Swap in depending on whether you face heavy crit or ult-reliant enemies.
- Chaos Skills (Optional): If you do spend, adding Energy Mastery or Infinite Firepower will massively improve Hammurabi’s carry potential.
🧪 How It Performs Today
- Against Physical Teams (Alex, Hannibal, Wukong): Excellent. Double tank front plus El Cid’s shields give strong survivability.
- Against Earth (Alex + Charles + Himiko): Performs decently, though Himiko scaling eventually pressures you.
- Against Fire & Water Mage Teams: Struggles. Without Chaos regen or burst skills, mages can cut through sustained defense.
- Arena & Conquest: Still a solid march for spenders who want reliability and flexibility without Chaos investment.
🏆 Conclusion
Double Tank Lightning may no longer be the undisputed king of Infinity Kingdom, but it remains a strong, spender-friendly build in Conquest.
- It’s budget competitive: no Chaos immortals or legendary skills required to work.
- It’s reliable against physical-heavy metas, with strong counters to Alex/Hannibal teams.
- It’s flexible, allowing for crit builds on Khan or ramp setups for Hammurabi.
- Its main weakness is against top-tier mage comps, but with careful play and future Lightning supports like Xiaoxiao, Double Tank Lightning could see a full revival.
👉 If you’re a spender looking for a safe, flexible, and competitive setup without going full whale, Double Tank Lightning is still one of the best options available.
