Lightning in Season 2: Genghis Khan or Hammurabi??

Lightning has always been a fan-favorite element in Infinity Kingdom — fast, aggressive, and able to tear through opponents with brutal crits and high burst damage. In Season 1, most players leaned on combinations like YSG–Khan or the generally stronger Hammurabi–Khan setup to maximize raw output.

But with the release of Immortal Talents in Season 2, the rules have changed. Suddenly, running two damage dealers in the backline is no longer the optimal path. Instead, every serious Lightning march will want to slot in a support immortal to unlock that devastating support talent tree.

So the question many Lightning mains are asking: Who should stay as your primary damage dealer — Hammurabi or Genghis Khan?

🎯 Why You Need a Support in Season 2

  • Immortal Talents make supports mandatory. The support talent tree is one of the strongest in the game, offering utility, healing, and damage amplification that can swing entire fights.
  • Without a support in your Lightning backline, you’ll simply be missing out on huge power spikes that Season 2 offers.
  • This means: instead of running Hammurabi + Khan, you’ll now run something like Support + One DPS.

Typical options include Theodora or Matilda, with Cao Cao also entering the conversation later when he becomes easier to obtain.

🔥 Genghis Khan – The Reliable Monster

Khan has always been a staple of Lightning, and for good reason:

  • High Crit Multiplier – His critical hits scale insanely well, especially when built as a “Crit-Khan.”
  • Wound Effect – Khan brings wounds to the table, shutting down healing-based teams. That’s utility on top of raw damage.
  • Flexibility – Unlike Hammurabi, Khan isn’t tied to pure Lightning setups. He works in hybrid marches (Earth/Lightning, Double Tank setups, etc.) and still performs.
  • Reliability – His damage isn’t as easily interrupted by control effects compared to mages.

The downside? His ceiling isn’t as explosively high as Hammurabi’s when everything lines up. But for most players, especially those without fully-optimized mage skills, Khan is the consistent and safer pick.

🪄 Hammurabi – The High-Risk, High-Reward Mage

Hammurabi has risen in popularity thanks to Season 2 talents and the Lightning Dragon’s scaling:

  • Synergy with Debuffs – His kit thrives when stacked with debuffs like Corrosive Power or Psionic Tide. With the right conditions, he can massively out-damage Khan.
  • Dragon Compatibility – The Lightning Dragon ultimate increases damage taken from ultimate skills. Combined with mage burst skills like Energy Mastery or Infinite Firepower, Hammurabi scales extremely well.
  • Insane Damage Potential – With correct setup and if the enemy isn’t debuff-capped, Hammurabi can outperform Khan.

The catch?

  • Fragile & Interruptible – Being a mage, Hammurabi is much easier to shut down through control effects.
  • Requires Premium Skills – To unlock his full potential, you’ll need access to high-end mage skills. Free-to-play and light spenders often won’t have the luxury.
  • Inconsistent – His performance can fluctuate wildly depending on matchup and enemy buffs.

In short: Hammurabi can be the superior choice, but he’s harder to use well and much less forgiving than Khan.

⚔️ Which One Should You Choose?

Here’s the practical breakdown:

  • For Reliability → Genghis Khan. He’s easier to build, harder to shut down, and always brings value through wounds and crit damage.
  • For Maximum Damage Potential → Hammurabi. If you have the mage skills and can manage debuff stacking without hitting the cap, Hammurabi will outscale Khan in high-end setups.
  • For Light Spenders → Qin + Hammurabi can be very effective, but you’ll need patience and the right skill investments.
  • For Consistency at All Levels → Theodora/Matilda + Khan backline is probably the strongest “plug-and-play” Lightning option in Season 2.

🛡️ Support Choices for Lightning

  • Theodora: A fantastic backbone support. Reliable healing, anti-control, and scales very well with talents.
  • Matilda: Another strong option, leaning more into raw sustain. Great for light spenders.
  • Cao Cao (Xiaoxiao): Not widely available yet, but will be one of the most meta-defining supports once accessible.
  • Himiko (situational): Sometimes used, but Lightning already struggles into Earth-Himiko, so not optimal.

👉 Recommendation: Run Theodora or Matilda. If you’re a spender and can unlock Cao Cao later, he becomes the premium pick.

🪄 Damage Dealer Showdown – Khan vs. Hammurabi

Genghis Khan – The Reliable Beast

  • Huge crit multiplier → “Crit-Khan” builds can hit insane numbers.
  • Scales with end-game expensive skills like Corrosive Power, Time to Shine, Lightning Strike, Unyielding, Energy Mastery
  • Wound effect denies healing.
  • Less fragile, harder to counter by enemies.
  • Fits into hybrid marches beyond Lightning.
  • Easier to build with mid-tier skills.

Hammurabi – The Mage Nuker

  • Scales with end-game expensive skills like Corrosive Power, Psionic Tide, Infinite Firepower, Energy Mastery.
  • Pairs perfectly with Lightning Dragon’s debuff centered passive.
  • Insane burst potential if enemy isn’t debuff-capped.
  • Fragile and control-prone → requires strong frontline + support.

👉 Verdict:

  • Most players → Khan is better.
  • High spenders with full mage skills → Hammurabi can outperform Khan, but is riskier.

⚔️ Recommended March Setups

Free-to-Play / Light Spender Build

  • Frontline: Tokugawa + El Cid / Richard
  • Backline: Theodora (Support) + Genghis Khan (DPS)

Why: Stable, consistent, strong sustain, and Khan is less skill-dependent than Hammurabi.

Whale / High Spender Build

  • Frontline: Bjorn + Tokugawa (or El Cid for anti-hybrid)
  • Backline: Cao Cao (Support) + Hammurabi (DPS)

Why: Hammurabi can hit absurd numbers with premium mage skills. Cao Cao adds incredible sustain if you are powerful enough to survive early game in the new hyper regen meta.

📜 Skills for Lightning

Basic For Khan (DPS)

  • Fighting Master / Anger – Control immunity is a big deal, especially vs Himikos. Anger baseline great damage amp.
  • Energy Burst – Synergizes with his high instance rate skills like DB.
  • Death Breath – Consistent damage amplification.

Spender For Khan (DPS)

  • Time to Shine/Lightning Strike/Unyielding/Fighting Master – Big amp or control immunity.
  • Energy Mastery – Huge regen and damage amp.
  • Corrosive – Constant Casting.

Basic For Hammurabi (Mage DPS)

  • Concentration – Amp.
  • Spell Disintegration – Amplifies through debuff and dragon passive and scales off of Ultimate. Triple yield.
  • Annihilation – Top-tier mage burst skills.

Spender For Hammurabi (Mage DPS)

  • Corrosive Power – Debuff-based scaling.
  • Psionic Tide – Amplifies burst.
  • Energy Mastery / Infinite Firepower – Top-tier mage burst skills.

OBS: Note that fighting into shadows you want to always use Fighting Master on your main damage dealer to avoid CC effects.

💰 Spending Tips

  • F2P / Light Spenders: Build Khan. He’s easier to make effective with lower investment.
  • Medium Spenders: Run Khan early, then consider Hammurabi if you secure key mage skills.
  • Whales: Hammurabi + Cao Cao is the true Lightning endgame.

🏆 Final Thoughts

  • Khan is the safe, flexible, and consistent DPS. You can always rely on him to perform, and he’s easier to build around.
  • Hammurabi is the specialist. When built correctly, he can outperform Khan — but he’s squishier, riskier, and far more reliant on premium skills and the right matchups.

Personally? I recommend Matilda/Theodora + Khan for most players, because it’s consistent and very hard to counter. But if you’re aiming for the absolute top-tier and have the skills to back it up, Hammurabi can still be a terrifying weapon in your Lightning arsenal.
