Mage Immortal Comparison Guide

Introduction

Mage immortals have historically defined the damage meta in Infinity Kingdom. Their ability to deliver reliable area-of-effect magical damage makes them central to most late-game formations, especially in PvP environments where deleting backlines quickly determines the outcome of fights.

However, evaluating mage strength is not as simple as looking at ultimate damage percentages. In real gameplay, several other systems influence performance:

  • Energy generation and cast frequency
  • Synergy with key meta skills
  • Elemental advantages
  • Control mechanics
  • Team composition requirements

This guide compares the most commonly used mage immortals:

  • Merlin
  • Baldwin
  • Himiko
  • Loki
  • Hammurabi
  • Wu Zetian
  • Cleopatra

The goal is to explain how each mage actually performs in practice, using both numerical comparisons and real gameplay considerations.


Raw Ultimate Damage Efficiency

To establish a baseline comparison, we first examine the damage output of each ultimate ability relative to base energy regeneration.

Damage Output Comparison of Mage Immortals

Looking purely at raw ultimate damage numbers, several mage immortals appear quite close in performance. However, the details of how their abilities function — including artifacts, elemental bonuses, and conditional effects — significantly influence how those numbers translate into real gameplay.

Based on the calculations in the table above, Baldwin has the highest theoretical damage output on average when unique artifacts and base energy regeneration are considered. His ultimate can strike multiple targets and has split mechanics that allow additional hits to trigger. Because of this, his damage output can fluctuate significantly from fight to fight. In some battles he may produce only moderate damage, while in others the split triggers repeatedly and results in extremely high burst. This makes Baldwin particularly attractive for players who enjoy RNG-based setups that can overperform when the triggers align.

Merlin, by comparison, provides the highest consistent AoE damage when Chill is active. Once the Chill bonus is applied, his damage per second slightly exceeds Baldwin’s average and remains stable across fights. This reliability is one of the reasons Merlin has historically remained a staple mage in many compositions. Without Chill his damage drops noticeably, but in most realistic team setups Chill is applied consistently enough that the higher value is the more relevant comparison.

Himiko sits just behind the top two when her Shadow affinity bonus is included. Her ultimate damage becomes very competitive once the elemental amplification is factored in. It is important to note that the table only reflects outgoing damage, while Himiko’s passive also reduces incoming damage from non-Holy immortals. In practice this additional mitigation makes her particularly effective in sustain or mitigation-oriented builds, such as certain Earth compositions.

Loki delivers solid damage but surprisingly does not rank at the very top despite being the most expensive immortal in the list due to his Chaos rarity. His value comes largely from the Confuse control effect, which is one of the strongest control mechanics available to mage immortals. When paired with control-support setups — for example alongside Ares to increase the likelihood of his control landing — Loki becomes an extremely powerful disruptive mage even if his raw damage numbers are slightly lower than the top performers.

Hammurabi is one of the hardest mages to evaluate from raw numbers alone. At baseline his ultimate damage is extremely low, placing him near the bottom of the table. However, his ability scales heavily with active debuffs on the enemy team, gaining additional damage for each debuff present. With four debuffs active, his damage rises into the middle of the pack and becomes quite respectable. If a team is able to stack even more debuffs consistently, Hammurabi can become a strong damage contributor. The challenge is that this performance depends heavily on reliable debuff application and timing, which makes him more difficult to use effectively than most other mages.

Wu Zetian appears on the lower end of the average damage calculations. This is largely because her ultimate relies heavily on RNG-triggered additional hits. Her artifact increases the chance that these extra hits occur, and when they do trigger repeatedly she can produce extremely high burst damage. When they fail to trigger, however, the result is much weaker output and often only single-target damage that may not even hit the enemy carry. In practice Wu is rarely relied upon purely for ultimate damage. Instead, she excels in crit-based builds, where Fire teams can stack powerful critical strike bonuses through sources such as Trajan’s ultimate, a Fire dragon, and other critical modifiers.

The final mage in the comparison is Cleopatra, whose ultimate deals relatively little damage and whose artifact does not improve that damage directly. Instead, her artifact extends the duration of her magical damage reduction debuff, which reduces the magical damage dealt by enemies. This clearly positions Cleopatra as a pseudo-support mage rather than a damage dealer. In certain niche setups she can also run skills like Poison Thorn to reduce enemy physical damage as well. In the current general meta she has limited usage, but in environments such as Illusion Battlefield Prime League, where many players rely on heavy mage damage from immortals like Wu or Merlin, her defensive utility can become quite valuable. One example is an Earth-based composition using Cleopatra as a semi-support while Alexander functions as the primary damage carry, although this setup typically requires access to strong Alexander skills available in playoff stages.

Overall, the raw damage comparison highlights an important pattern: while several mages appear close in numerical performance, their mechanics and team dependencies create very different practical roles. Some, like Merlin, provide consistent AoE pressure. Others, like Baldwin or Wu, rely on RNG mechanics for higher ceilings. And immortals such as Hammurabi or Cleopatra depend heavily on specific team synergies to unlock their full potential.


Energy Efficiency and the Hyper-Regen Meta

With the introduction of Immortal Talents, the mage meta shifted heavily toward rapid ultimate cycling.

Two skills define this playstyle:

  • Energy Mastery
  • Corrosive Power

These skills create a feedback loop where ultimates generate energy that allows additional ultimates in rapid succession.

To evaluate this interaction, we calculate damage value per energy point. Hence we take the damage value of an ultimate divided by 1000 (energy required to cast) and we get a damage value per energy.

Damage Value Per Energy

This metric becomes especially relevant for Energy Mastery, which restores 400 energy per ultimate cast. As well as for Corrosive Power refunds 200 energy after three ultimate hits.

Energy Mastery and Corrosive Power Values

Another important factor shaping the current mage meta is the interaction with Energy Mastery and Corrosive Power. These two skills became significantly stronger after the introduction of Immortal Talents, which allow backline mages to reach their first ultimate cast much faster than before. Once the first ultimate is triggered, both skills begin feeding energy back into the system, often allowing the mage to cast again very quickly.

Energy Mastery provides 400 energy after an ultimate cast, meaning immortals with high damage-per-energy ratios benefit the most. Based on the calculations above, Merlin, Baldwin, and Himiko gain the highest value from Energy Mastery because their ultimates convert each point of energy into a large amount of damage. Hammurabi and Loki fall into the middle range, while Wu Zetian, Merlin without Chill, and Cleopatra receive noticeably less value due to their lower average damage per ultimate.

Corrosive Power, which generates 200 energy for every three ultimate hits, produces a slightly different ranking. Immortals with reliable multi-target hits perform better here, placing Merlin, Himiko (with Shadow affinity), and Hammurabi among the stronger users of the skill. However, Baldwin stands out clearly in this category.

Corrosive Power Baldwin:

Because his ultimate splits into additional hits through his artifact, he almost always reaches the three-hit threshold and therefore guarantees the energy refund. Additionally, each of his two initial hits has a 75% chance to split again, giving him a strong probability of triggering multiple refunds within a single ultimate.

  • He always triggers the first refund
  • He has a 75% × 75% = 56.25% probability for an additional refund

In practice this interaction makes Baldwin particularly powerful in hyper-regen mage builds, where Energy Mastery and Corrosive Power continuously cycle energy back into his ultimate. While other mages benefit from these mechanics, Baldwin’s split-based hit generation allows him to convert these skills into energy much more efficiently, enabling rapid chains of ultimates when the triggers align.


Individual Mage Analysis

Merlin – The Benchmark AoE Mage

Merlin remains the standard by which most mages are measured.

His ultimate deals strong AoE damage and benefits heavily from the Chill damage amplification mechanic.

Strengths

  • Highest consistent AoE damage
  • Excellent synergy with energy-regen builds
  • Reliable performance in most compositions

Weaknesses

  • Requires Chill to reach maximum output
  • Provides no control or defensive utility

Player Perspective

In practice, Merlin performs exactly as expected from the numbers. His damage remains stable across fights and scales very well with energy cycling builds. If a player wants dependable backline pressure without relying on RNG or complicated setups, Merlin remains one of the safest mage picks in the game.


Baldwin – The RNG Powerhouse

Baldwin’s kit revolves around split mechanics triggered by his artifact.

Each split creates additional hits that dramatically increase both damage and energy generation.

Strengths

  • Extremely high potential damage ceiling
  • Exceptional synergy with Corrosive Power
  • Strong hyper-regen scaling

Weaknesses

  • Performance varies due to RNG
  • Less predictable burst timing

Player Perspective

In fights where the split triggers repeatedly, Baldwin can outperform nearly every other mage. In unlucky fights, his damage drops closer to average levels. However, when paired with hyper-regen setups, his energy cycling becomes extremely powerful.


Himiko – Elemental Scaling Specialist

Himiko’s damage profile becomes stronger when Shadow affinity is active.

Against non-Holy enemies she gains:

  • Increased damage dealt
  • Reduced incoming damage

Strengths

  • Strong burst damage
  • Elemental advantage scaling
  • Good survivability compared to other mages

Weaknesses

  • Slightly lower baseline damage than Merlin

Himiko performs extremely well in environments dominated by non-Holy immortals, which is most PvP scenarios. Her combined offensive and defensive scaling makes her particularly effective in mitigation-focused builds, including certain Earth compositions.


Loki – Control-Focused Chaos Mage

Although Loki is the most expensive mage among this group, his value lies primarily in control mechanics rather than raw damage.

His Confuse effect can force enemy immortals to attack their own team.

Hammurabi is often misunderstood because his baseline damage is extremely low.

However, his ultimate scales with the number of active debuffs on the enemy team.

  • Very weak without support
  • Requires consistent debuff uptime

Player Perspective

When a team consistently applies multiple debuffs before Hammurabi casts, his damage becomes surprisingly competitive. However, maintaining that setup reliably requires careful composition planning.


Empress

Wu – Crit Build Specialist. Wu’s ultimate relies on random additional strikes.

This means her damage varies significantly between fights.

Strengths

  • Extremely high burst potential
  • Excellent synergy with critical-hit builds
  • Unique scaling in Fire teams

Weaknesses

  • Highly inconsistent damage
  • Single-target focus

Player Perspective

Wu is rarely chosen solely for her ultimate damage. Instead, her value comes from crit-stacking builds. Fire teams can combine Trajan’s crit buffs with a fire dragon and other modifiers to reach extremely high critical strike chances, allowing Wu to deliver devastating burst damage.


Cleopatra – Defensive Utility Mage

Cleopatra’s ultimate reduces enemy magical damage dealt, positioning her closer to a support role.

Her artifact extends the duration of this debuff.
