How to Upgrade Portaits and When to STOP upgrading

Infinity Kingdom Guide: When to Stop Upgrading Portraits?

Introduction

Portraits are one of the most powerful late-game progression tools in Infinity Kingdom. Unlocking significant stat boosts as you level them up with Stardust, portraits can push your Immortals from “strong” to “formidable.” However, Stardust is incredibly limited, and wasting it can set back your entire account progression. Knowing when to stop upgrading a portrait is key to optimizing your power and efficiency.

In this guide, we will explain what portraits are, why they matter, what each level tier does, and when you should stop upgrading them depending on your goals and spending level.

What Are Portraits?

Portraits are special upgrades you can apply to Immortals once you have unlocked them. You access them from the Immortal interface, and they become relevant starting in the mid-game and especially in Season 1 and beyond.

To upgrade them, you need Stardust, a rare resource that is mainly obtained from the Lucky Spin event or from bundles. Upgrading a portrait grants direct attribute bonuses depending on the Immortal’s type (DPS, Tank, or Support).

Why Stardust Must Be Spent Wisely

Stardust is a major bottleneck. Unless you are a high spender who can whale every Lucky Spin, you will need to be very selective about which Immortals you invest in and how far.

Every 10 levels takes significantly more Stardust. For example:

  • Level 1 to 10 is relatively cheap.
  • Level 40 to 50 can cost as much as the entire 0-30 path combined.

This makes poor Stardust spending one of the most punishing long-term mistakes in the game.

Key Milestones in Portrait Leveling

Each 10-level breakpoint offers specific bonuses:

  • Level 10: A small but meaningful bump to base stats. For DPS, it is worth doing even early.
  • Level 20: This is a huge breakpoint for tanks and supports, as they gain +5% Damage Taken Reduction. This is an essential early target.
  • Level 40: Another +5% Damage Taken Reduction for tanks and supports. While not as vital as the 20 breakpoint, it is a powerful bonus.
  • Level 50: Grants flat attributes and max scaling power to your Immortal. Essential for DPS, but diminishing returns for supports and tanks unless you are pushing every ounce of power.

Recommended Upgrade Strategy

Here is a smart and efficient upgrade path tailored for low- to mid-spenders:

Early Progression (Preparation to Season 1):

  • DPS Immortal(s): Upgrade to Level 20 as soon as possible. You need every stat you can get.
  • Support/Tank Immortals: Level 10 is enough. Focus Stardust on your DPS.

Mid Progression (Season 1 to Season 2):

  • DPS Immortal(s): Push to Level 40 to unlock more attribute scaling.
  • Support/Tank Immortals: Push to Level 20 for that +5% Damage Taken Reduction.

Late Progression (Season 2 and Conquest):

  • DPS Immortal(s): Push to Level 50 to max out your main source of damage.
  • Support/Tank Immortals: Keep at Level 20, or 40 if you want to power up your main march before moving to your second.

Unless you’re a whale, going 40-50 on supports and tanks is not recommended, as it gives only marginal benefit for an extreme cost. That Stardust is better spent upgrading your next march.

Power Pooling vs. Roster Building

If your goal is to max power into one main team, you might go further on supports and tanks. Getting them to 40 means a larger power boost and more stats for Conquest-style dominance.

However, if your goal is to build up a competitive second march, stop at 20 and move on. Those thousands of Stardust can level 2-3 more portraits to 20 instead of going from 40 to 50 on a tank.

Conclusion

Understanding when to stop upgrading portraits is critical for efficient account growth. For most players:

  • DPS to 50, supports and tanks to 20 is optimal.
  • Go to 40 on supports/tanks only if you’re pooling everything into one team.
  • Only push 50 on non-DPS if you’re a heavy spender chasing top leaderboard spots.

Remember: Stardust is scarce. Spend it with intention, and your roster will thank you.
