Your first Legion of Frostborne

Complete Guide to Legion of Frostborne (LoF) for First-Timers.

The Legion of Frostborne is Infinity Kingdom’s most intense server vs. server (SvS) event, where players and alliances battle for dominance over gates, cities, and ultimately, the Gnome Capital, Ymir.

This guide will cover everything you need to know before entering your first season, including:
✔️ How to prepare for LoF
✔️ Alliance coordination and map progression
✔️ Thermal Tower placement and chaining
✔️ Best offensive and defensive strategies
✔️ Advanced tactics using alt-alliances
✔️ Tips for dealing with stronger servers

First things first, this being your very first Legion of Frostborne, you are playing in season 1. That means we are using the “old” format, where servers are fighting against other servers. Later in the game the format changes into a Faction based battleground where alliances are matches across servers into Factions that compete. For now, this dosen’t matter to you. What you are going to be playing is a format where your server will be matched against three other servers (in chronological order).

Note: The official in-game guide will tell you the format is for 8 servers, this was true back in the day on the first servers, but in todays version we are playing in a 4-server format.

Preparation Phase: Before Entering Frostborne

1. Understanding the Map and Objectives

Frostborne has a hex-grid map divided into provinces (zones) that gradually unlock as your server makes progress. The goal is to conquer territory, capture strategic cities, and push towards the center, where the Gnome Capital, Ymir, is located.

Each zone is unlocked in stages. Upon entering the frozen lands, your server will be inside your starting area. Here you can construct your first thermals and farm resources as you prepare for the later combat stages. After a few days the cities in the starting areas become available and you will be playing some PvE siege encounters as you capture your starting zone.

Then you need to make your battle plans as you await the shields on the side-gates to drop. Once these drop, the outer ring of the map is made available for combat.

Later, the inner gates open and the middle 4 areas become contested battlegrounds as the servers try to claim these lands. These are the most important zones in the game because they hold all gates to the inner most area where the ultimate objective “Ymir” is located.

The Thermal Towers are key in Legion of Frostborne, as you are only able to siege an area when you have an allied Thermal Tower covering the City or Gate you want to siege. Moreover, enemy alliances cannot build thermal towers within the control area of your towers.

On the above map, the green area are the starting zones. The red lines are area-walls with multiple gates on all sides. Yellow is inner area (important zone of control) and the red circle in the middel is where you will find Ymir.

🔹 Key Objectives on the Map:

  • Gates (Checkpoints) – Unlocks new areas, essential for expansion.
  • Thermal Towers – Allow territory expansion; your thermal chain must connect to gates and cities to siege them.
  • Cities & Fortresses – Provide ongoing rewards and zone-wide combat buffs.
  • Ymir (Final Battle) – Controlling this capital city determines event winners.

2. Alliance and Cross-server Coordination & Communication

Your server needs to work as one unit to win Frostborne. Coordination happens at two levels:
✔️ Server-wide cooperation between multiple alliances (or servers).
✔️ Alliance-level strategy for individual objectives.
✔️ Cross-server alliances can claim victory even in the face of a much more powerful server!

There will always be a power differential between the servers matched in a Legion of Frostborne battlegroup. As such, diplomacy become key for victory! If you are not part of the strongest server in the battlegroup, alliances with the other servers can often be the key to claiming victory!

Set up external communication (Discord, WeChat, etc.)
Assign battle roles in your alliance (rally leaders, defenders, thermal deployers)
Create a chain-of-command and decision-makers

💡 Tip: Strong alliances must coordinate with secondary and farm alliances to create a unified front.

3. Resource & Troop Preparation

LoF is resource-heavy, so before the event begins, prepare:

✔️ Healing Speed-ups – Troop losses will stack up FAST.
✔️ March Speed-ups – Crucial for capturing Thermals and Gates quickly.
✔️ Teleportation Scrolls – Needed for quick repositioning.

✔️ Troops – Max out your training grounds before the side gates drop!

💡 Tip: If you plan to go all-in for LoF, stockpile resources on your farms before the event begins!

Executing Your Strategy in LoF

1. Thermal Tower Tactics & Chaining

Thermal Towers are the most critical mechanic in LoF. They allow your alliance to expand territory and teleport closer to objectives.

Advanced Thermal Tactics:

1️⃣ Using Alt-Alliances to Bypass Enemy Defenses

  • Alt-alliances (level 4+) can drop their first Thermal anywhere on the map.
  • Your main alliance allies with them via the diplomacy function, allowing you to chain thermals from unexpected locations.
  • This lets you rush key objectives before enemies react.

2️⃣ Instant Wonder Build to Secure Objectives

  • When capturing a Gate, City, or Fortress, immediately use the Wonder Build feature (unlocked in the mid-stages) to drop a Thermal Tower on-site.
  • This locks in your claim, prevents counterattacks, and allows faster reinforcements via teleportation.

3️⃣ Thermal Stacking Defense – Whale Babysitting

  • When building a Thermal in contested areas, fill it with troops and have whale players send the last march.
  • If attacked, the enemy must defeat the last march first, allowing whales to repeatedly reinforce the last spot to keep the Thermal Tower protected.
  • More troops in the Thermal = Faster construction speed.

💡 Tip: Using multiple alt-alliances to chain thermals rapidly lets you outmaneuver stronger enemies and reach critical locations first.

2. Offensive Strategy – Destroying Enemy Thermals & Spreading Chaos

Breaking the Enemy’s Map Control

✔️ Destroy enemy Thermal Towers – A top priority for any offensive push.
✔️ Use small marches to harass enemy Thermals – Even a 1-troop march forces enemies to spread their defenses.
✔️ Sneak small players and alts into enemy land – Teleport weak castles and alt-accounts into enemy zones to deconstruct Thermals constantly, this will stress and spread enemy activity thin.
✔️ Use multiple alliances to chain – using multiple alliances for Thermal chaining, means you can rapidly reach key objectives – especially once Wonder Build is unlocked and you have fresh level 4 alliances available.

💡 Tip: Keep enemies constantly on the defensive. The more they have to protect, the weaker their offensive efforts will be.

3. Defensive Strategy – Holding Ground & Stalling Enemies

If your server is on the defensive, you can stall stronger enemies using these tactics:

✔️ Shielded Castles Block Movement – Use alt castles with shields to block key areas and prevent enemy castle movements.

✔️ Hide Behind Captured Gates – If overwhelmed, retreat behind a Gate.
✔️ Fake Attacks – Send small, fake rallies to distract enemies and waste their time.
✔️ Exploit Enemy Rage Debuffs – If their whales are fatigued and can’t heal fast, launch counterattacks to take advantage.
✔️ Use instant healing tactics for Thermal Towers to prolonge a defense of key thermals

💡 Tip: Defense is about wasting the enemy’s time and resources—every hour you hold out makes a future comeback more likely.

Final Tips & Tricks

✔️ Save Speed-Ups for the Endgame – The final week of LoF is the most intense.
✔️ Diplomacy Can Win Wars – Weaker servers can unite to overwhelm a stronger one.
✔️ Don’t Overextend Early – Many Alliances exhaust themselves too quickly—pace your aggression!
✔️ Always Deconstruct Enemy Thermals – Never let the enemy rebuild their thermal network.

Summary

The Legion of Frostborne is all about coordination, map control, and strategic execution.

✔️ Use alt-alliances to chain Thermals and expand unpredictably.
✔️ Deconstruct enemy Thermals relentlessly to keep them on defense.
✔️ Defend wisely using shielded castles, whale babysitting, and stalling tactics.
✔️ Leverage diplomacy to unite weaker servers against powerful ones.

🔥 Most importantly: Work together with your Alliance and faction to dominate the battlefield! 🔥

Good luck in your first Legion of Frostbornego claim Ymir for your server! 💪❄️
