Military Talent Loadouts: How to Choose the Right Combat Talents

Introduction
Military talents are the most situational of all talent trees in Infinity Kingdom. Unlike development or dragon talents – where efficiency math largely dictates optimal choices – combat talents must adapt to:
- Your army composition
- The enemy’s damage profile
- Whether you are attacking or defending
- The specific PvP or PvE context
There is no single “best” military loadout. Instead, there is a decision framework that helps you determine which talents are correct for you in each situation.
This article walks through the Military talent tree step by step, explaining:
- Which talents are default picks
- Which depend on your build
- Which are niche but powerful when used correctly
1. Crit vs Dodge
You almost always want Crit now. Used to be Dodge was a real thing to counter physical damage dealers – especially Alexander’s – but that is not really the case anymore given how abundant accuracy attributes are now. Given how Crit is always very powerful, it is the default pick here outside of niche builds.

There are three reasons for this:
- Most army compositions naturally reach higher Crit than Dodge, meaning Crit talents simply give more effective stats.
- You want battles to end decisively. Dodge-oriented setups prolong fights and increase the risk of timeout losses.
- High-VIP players (VIP 14–15) are often running Chase, which explicitly requires crits to function.
Dodge looks defensive on paper, but in practice it is rarely optimal.
Default pick: Crit
2. Physical vs Magic Attack
This is your first true build-dependent choice.

- If your primary damage comes from physical attackers (for example, lightning-based marches), you want Knife Through Butter.
- If your damage comes from magic carries (Merlin-centric water, double mage fire setups like Baldwin + Wu), you want Rage.
The rule is simple:
Always amplify your primary damage source.
3. AP Conservation vs March Speed
You want March Speed.

Even when farming gnomes, the small AP savings are rarely worth the extra time spent marching. In PvP, march speed determines:
- Whether you catch targets
- Whether you reinforce in time
- Whether you reposition effectively
Life is too short to save 4 AP and miss fights. Default pick: March Speed
4. Attack vs Defense (Early Tree)
You almost always want First Strike.

The only scenario where Body of Steel makes sense is if you cannot reach Might of Longbows later in the tree. Otherwise, offensive tempo matters more than early defense. Ruin is a PvE talent and as such not something we are interested in here. But for sieging, that will help you a bit!
Default pick: First Strike
5. Relocation Speed vs Reduced Troop Losses
By default, you want Survival Methods.

Reducing troop losses is universally valuable in:
- PvP
- Gnome farming
- Extended fighting sessions
The only exception is Illusion Battle (IB) scenarios, where relocation speed can be strategically important.
Default pick: Survival Methods
6. Berserking vs Healing vs Honor
This is one of the most important decision points.
6.1 Last Stand – Pure Damage

Last Stand adds a flat 8% damage increase, which is enormous. It allows you to:
- Win fights at a power disadvantage
- Break stalemates
- Perform effectively while ratting
This is my go-to talent for heavy PvP (SvS, Norheim).
6.2 Aid – Healing Efficiency

Aid is situationally strong if:
- You are the target of repeated rallies
- You are absorbing large volumes of attacks
- You lack healing speedups
I rarely run it by default, but it can be extremely helpful under pressure.
6.3 Rank Advancement – Honor Farming

If you overpower your opponent, Rank Advancement is exceptional.
It is mandatory when:
- Farming honor
- Using alts
- Pushing Nobility rank
This talent has no place in even fights—but dominates in one-sided engagements.
7. Weaken Enemies vs Boost Defense

Weakening the enemy’s offense speeds up kills and reduces incoming damage. Way I see it, if you are building for offense you go Domination, if you are building for defense you go Frighten. Given how Frighten only reduces enemy Immortal skill damage, it will be more impactful versus enemies doing e.g. Energy Master + Corrosive builds, but it will be quite lackluster against a mage with Infinite Firepower since it does nothing to Tower of Knowledge skills. Likewise, Alexander / Hannibal builds relying on normal attack damage is not impacted by Frighten.
While there may be defense builds that work well with Frighten, it lacks coverage and I greatly favor Domination which ensure effectiveness across the board. Default pick for current meta: Domination
8. Sneak Attack vs Might of Longbows
Sneak Attack is powerful on offense, dealing 7.5% max HP damage before battle starts.

However, Might of Longbows is the strongest defensive talent in the entire tree and should be your default.

The logic:
- You already run many offensive talents
- You need defense when enemies attack you
Default pick: Might of Longbows
9. Energy Regen vs Attack Speed
You almost always want Owl Guardian (Energy Regen).

- Every immortal benefits from energy regen
- Only very specific normal-attack builds value attack speed more
Attack speed is niche. Energy regen is universal.
10. Excitation vs Energy Burst
This depends on whether you are attacking or defending.

- Excitation → Better when attacking
- Energy Burst → Better when defending, especially if the attacker uses tactics
Both are viable. Choose based on your role in the fight. I do not like Meditation much, but I will mention if here. If you are doing e.g. a frontloaded Tutankhamon build or a damage Hippo build or something niche, then you may gain value from Meditation to rival the other two. But this is super niche!

11. Accuracy vs Resilience
You usually want Resilience.
However, this is a talent that is determined 100% on the questions: Are you running physical damage? if yes, do you ever miss an attack? (dodge in reports). If yes and yes, then Accuracy is your saviour!

For anyone else (the vast majority) Resilience reducing incoming crits is super strong and the default go-to talent pick here.
Reasons to pick Target Locked (Accuracy):
- Prevents misses → consistent damage
- Extremely strong for physical carries if you are having problems reaching hit-cap
12. Hospital / Wall / Defense Energy Talents
Frankly, this row is weak.

All three options are underwhelming. I default to Skillful (defense energy regen) because it has some PvP relevance. Far as I am concerned, this is a row where you pick something to move on..
From here on, we are getting into Conquest season talents. The following will be available upon entering Conquest.
13. Irresistible Force vs Fate’s Favor
For me, this is a clear choice: Irresistible Force.

Reducing enemy energy regen directly improves your combat performance. Fate’s Favor only has value in extremely niche “intentional defeat” strategies, which I do not play.
To me this is a total no brainer, I always want to push my combat power and performance as much as possible. Hence Irresistible Force is the nobrain pick for me. That being said, I can see in super rare cases where you are doing maybe a low-troop count fire-dragon attack spam on an enemy whale (where you send just enough troops to enable your dragon breath to land and kill enemy troops before you are defeated, thus taking minimal defeat losses while slowly grinding down the enemy) then I guess Fate’s Favor is good. I never play to be defeated so never using this talent.
If your goal is to win fights, take Irresistible Force.
14. Countering Enemy Damage Types
This final choice is extremely powerful and should never be set-and-forget.
You should usually choose between:
Adaptive Armor
- +25% physical defense if enemy front row is attack-type
Excellent against Alexander-based compositions.

Rune of Petricite
- +25% magical defense if enemy back row is magic-type
Essential against Himiko and mage-heavy metas.

Do not rely on Total Victory. The wounded conversion effect is too small to matter meaningfully.

Best practice:
Have two military talent pages, one for physical-heavy metas and one for magic-heavy metas, and swap based on the matchup.
Conclusion Summary
Military talents are not about copying a fixed build—they are about correct decision-making.
Key takeaways:
- Default to offense to avoid timeouts
- Amplify your primary damage type
- Adjust talents based on whether you are attacking or defending
- Counter the enemy’s carry, not their support
- Maintain multiple military pages if you are PvP-active
Players who actively think about their Military talents will consistently outperform players with higher raw power who do not.
That is the real advantage of mastering this tree.
