Patch 2.8.5 – Return of Control Builds, Golden Path Buffs and more!
Infinity Kingdom Patch Overview – Major Golden Path Overhaul and Ares Reveal
The latest Infinity Kingdom patch comes with some of the biggest changes to the Golden Path (GP) event since its inception—and adds a brand-new immortal, Ares, with a groundbreaking ultimate skill. This patch isn’t just tweaking numbers; it’s reshaping how low- and mid-spenders approach long-term progress, making high-tier power much more accessible while also offering a glimpse of a potential shift in PvP meta.
In this article, we break down the key changes, explain why they matter, and explore their future impact.

Massive Buffs to Golden Path (GP)
Let’s start with the headline: Golden Path has received a major buff.
Until now, players participating in Golden Path could only exchange up to 2,000 Merit Coins for 10×60 fragments of the highly sought after Immortals like YSS, Mathilda, Trajan and others. That will change. From now on, we are getting half. That’s 60 fragments per immortal, up to 5 times—enough to unlock or slowly progress a specific immortal, but obviously this will slow down the speed at which newer players will be able to max out YSS and the others. But while this is a minor nerf, there are MAJOR news!

So far we have had no Unique Artifacts in GP and its been very hard to get UAs for the GP immortals.
That changes now.
What’s New:
- You are still limited to 1,000 Merit Coins worth of immortal fragments per Golden Path run (5x 60-fragment bundles).
- Now you can also purchase the Unique Artifact shards for those same immortals available in the Golden Path!
Why This Is a Big Deal:
Unique Artifacts (UAs) are some of the most powerful tools in Infinity Kingdom. They define the effectiveness of high-end immortals. Until now, immortals like Mathilda, Trajan, and Mathilda—who feature in GP—have been easy to obtain but almost impossible to max out, because their Unique Artifacts were so rare or paywalled. That bottleneck is now open.
Now, players who invest in Golden Path can realistically work toward not only maxing their immortal fragments, but also completing their artifacts. This makes immortals like Mathilda (a fantastic support), YSS (best tank in the game), and others far more viable at high-end PvP.
Minor Drawback:
The fragment purchase cap halfed will be rought for some… This is a disappointment for Season 1 players who have used Golden Path to stack fragments fast for crystal melting (to boost Tower of Knowledge skills). The five-bundle cap slows down early-game progression and lowers purple crystal farming efficiency.
However, even with this small downside, the overall Golden Path update is a massive net positive. It makes the event one of the best long-term investments for low- and mid-spenders.
Ares – New Immortal, New Meta?
The patch also introduces Ares, a brand-new immortal whose active skill is already creating buzz.

Ares’s Active Skill:
“Inflicts Physical Damage (Damage Rate x%) on all enemies, with a y% chance of applying Frighten: Prevents the carrier from gaining Control Immunity effects and weakens their Barriers by 30% for 6 seconds.”
This might be the single most impactful skill text we’ve seen in a long time, because it introduces something never before seen: a counter to control immunity.
Why That Matters:
The meta in Infinity Kingdom has shifted heavily toward units and setups that center around:
- Deal insane burst damage
- Are immune to control (Fountain and Fu Fei)
This has made traditional control setups (stun, silence, fear) nearly obsolete—until now. Ares’s “Frighten” status bypasses the core of what made control irrelevant: control immunity. And with new control-supporting Tower of Knowledge skills like Fountain of Life, the door is open for a return to tactical, status-based marches.
This could bring back strong setups with:
- Loki (Confuse)
- Tony (Confuse)
- Other classic controllers like Richard, Attila, Bathory, Himiko, etc.
Ares in combination with ToK skills like Fountain and proper support, we may be seeing the rebirth of control-based strategies at the top levels.
Big Spender Alert:
Let’s be honest: Ares and this new meta direction won’t be accessible to everyone right away. As of now, these new tools are extremely costly to acquire. But if you’re a huge spender or in a kingdom with players who are, expect new kinds of high-control marches to start appearing.
And if you’re a theorycrafter? This is your moment to shine.
Final Thoughts
This patch is a major milestone. The Golden Path has gone from a modest progression tool to one of the best-value events in the game, offering both immortal fragments and Unique Artifact progress. Yes, the cap on fragment purchases slightly slows early-game fragment farming, but the tradeoff is more than worth it.
Add to that a bold new immortal with a control-immunity counter and we’re potentially seeing the beginning of a meta shift that reopens doors to old strategies and new creativity.
Whether you’re a low-spender, mid-spender, or theorycrafting enthusiast, this patch gives you more tools than ever.
Time to log in and start planning your next Golden Path run—and maybe your return to control domination.
