Executioner – DoT synergy burst skill
Introduction – A Skill That Rises and Falls With the Meta
Few Tower of Knowledge skills have had a lifecycle quite like Executioner. When it was first introduced, it immediately became one of the most explosive scaling skills in the game. Properly supported, it could outperform many legendary actives simply by converting continuous damage into repeated area burst. Then the meta shifted.

Theodora and Purification became standard. Continuous damage stopped sticking. Executioner lost its fuel source and quietly disappeared from high-level play. Now, in the current environment — where Fu Fei has largely replaced Theodora and fewer players dedicate slots to cleanse — Executioner has become relevant again.
If you are a low spender or free-to-play player looking for a way to pressure modern Himiko builds, this is one of the few Tower skills capable of punching upward.
Official Skill Description
Executioner: After inflicting continuous damage 8 times, deal additional physical damage (350%) to all enemies and gain the execution effect, which increases the damage dealt to targets with less than 30% troops for 6 seconds.
Available in the Cinder Shop. Meaning you can obtain it for free by purchasing Legion of Frostborne skill rewards, sell the skill stones you do not need for Cinders and buy Executioner in the Cinder shop! Same goes for Blade Vortex, which most players want to use in synergy with Executioner to get the damage over time (DoT) effect applications required to trigger Executioners damage procs.
How Executioner Actually Works
Executioner does not trigger from raw damage. It triggers from continuous damage instances also known as Damage over Time effect or DoT’s for short. That distinction is very important to understand.
Each tick of damage-over-time counts toward the 8-trigger requirement. Once 8 ticks have occurred, Executioner releases a 350% physical AoE burst to all enemies. Then the counter begins again.

So the real question becomes: How fast can you generate 8 continuous damage ticks?
The faster you reach that threshold, the more often Executioner detonates. Executioner is not in itself a burst skill, it is a scaling multiplier requiring synergy with skills and immortals to perform.
Ideal Synergies
Executioner requires fuel. The best fuel source in the current meta is Gilgamesh although Bathory also applies consistent DoT effects and can also be used for an Executioner build.
His ultimate applies:
- Initial AoE physical damage
- Followed by ticking continuous damage on all enemies
When paired with Blade Vortex (or other DoT skills like Chaotic Blade or Garrotte), you add additional ticking damage on multiple targets.

Now you have:
- DoTs from ultimate
- DoTs from skills like e.g. Blade Vortex
- Multiple targets ticking simultaneously
The result is simple: Executioner triggers repeatedly.
In testing and real KvK reports, Executioner often becomes one of the top damage contributors in properly built Gilgamesh marches — sometimes even outperforming the ultimate itself.
Bathory can run a similar structure, but Gilgamesh produces more consistent ticking frequency, which accelerates Executioner more reliably.
Why Executioner Fell Out of the Meta
Executioner was not nerfed into irrelevance, it was countered. When Theodora and Purification became common, continuous damage was removed before it could stack. If DoTs are cleansed, the 8-tick requirement resets. Without ticks, Executioner never reaches critical mass.
This is why Executioner collapsed during heavy cleanse metas. The skill itself was not weak — its environment became hostile.
Why It Works Again Today
In the current Conquest meta:
- Fu Fei has largely replaced Theodora.
- Purification is no longer a staple skill slot.
- Many Earth/Himiko builds rely on sustain and attack speed rather than cleansing.
This creates a structural vulnerability: Continuous damage now sticks, and when it sticks, Executioner scales aggressively.
If the enemy is not actively removing DoTs, you are effectively running a 350% AoE burst skill that can trigger very fast and very often for massive damage pressure.
What Hard Counters Executioner
As we have touched upon earlier, Executioner has a clear Achilles heel: The ability to dispel DoT effects.
If the enemy runs: Theodora and/or Purification, then the skill loses most of its value as your enemy will consistenty cleanse damage over time effects – especially Theodora with her AoE mass dispel.

Continuous damage gets removed = Triggers slow dramatically = Scaling collapses.
Executioner is a meta-dependent skill. It thrives when cleansing is rare and struggles when cleansing is common.
Executioner in Low-Spender Strategy
One of the most important aspects of Executioner is accessibility.
It is available in the Cinder Shop.

This means:
- It does not require premium gacha luck.
- It can be purchased through accumulated Cinders.
- It is fully viable for free-to-play players willing to reinvest skill stones.
When paired with farmable immortals like Gilgamesh and Qin, you create a setup capable of defeating significantly more expensive builds — particularly Fu Fei Himiko structures lacking purification.
Practical Takeaway
Executioner is not universally powerful. It is conditionally powerful.
When the meta favors:
- Sustain over cleanse
- Fu Fei over Theodora
- Damage scaling over debuff removal
Executioner becomes one of the most efficient Tower of Knowledge skills in the game.
Built correctly, it:
- Scales aggressively
- Punishes non-cleansing metas
- Holds elemental advantage in key matchups
- Remains fully accessible to low spenders
