Hard counter to physical holy & earth (patch 2.3)

This guide is part of my article series on wind builds. If this build is not to your likeing, have a look at the rest of my builds on the wind build page. I have multiple builds for any taste available, IB, PvE, arena/ToS builds and F2P/cheap builds.

  • Kills holy and earth whales
  • No special ToK skills required

This article is on hard countering physical damage dealing marches with Wind. As you know, there are many whales with holy and earth mains, which makes a strong counter to physical damage extreemly powerful in Infinity Kingdom’s current meta (currently on patch 2.3).

Wind is NOT free-to-play friendly. You NEED to spend a fair bit to be able to run wind at any level, simply because wind dragon shards are very hard to come by.

Strengths and weaknesses

This is a very strong build that works as a hard counter to other players running physical builds such as Earth, Earth Hybrid and Holy. However, for the player who needs a wind main to do everything with, you are in luck. This build has immense sustain making it excellent also in PvE gnome raiding.

However, it sucks versus bosses (don’t use wind for that ever…) and it is also VERY WEAK against fire teams. This build is hardcountered by dual-mage fire (see page).

Immortal Setup – how does it work?

This setup counter physical damage dealers while cleaving down the enemy backline. This means, we are running Immortals and passives which increase our physical defenses whilst killing the enemy backline Immortals quickly, rendering them ineffective and soon – dead. To cleave down our enemies, we rely on three Immortals with strong cleave ultimates i.e. Atalanta, Barca and King Arthur (can be replaced by Saladin but pref. Arthur).

Furthermore, we are relying on our Qin to apply wounds to the enemy, making the holy dragon, Theodora, and Zeno healing useless against us!

Passive loadout

The passive loadout is very important to understand for this build. We are running wind dragon, which gives us a big advantage over physical damage dealers because we are reducing their accuracy rate by an immense 25% for the first 12 crucial seconds of the fight. Comparativelye, Coercion (a must have on any physical team) is only 20%!

In addition to the reduced accuracy we want to make sure we dodge as many physical attacks as possible. It is the biggest weakness of physical damage to dodge, since a dodge is a 100% dmg reduction (beware magic damage cannot be dodged). Therefore, we run passives such as misleading, and afterimage (see full loadout below).

Occacionally, we are hit with damage 😉 Therefore, we also need some sustain to keep ourselves high on troop numbers while we dodge and cleave. Wind dragon + Qin + Berserk provides a solid and reliable sustain to your team. Stormy Breath and Berserk provides healing when we land an attack on the enemy and increasing our attack speed significantly through Qin’s buff and Berserk.

You want to run this passive loadout:

Qin Emperor: Berserk + Fighting Will + Afterimage

Atalanta: Anger + Missleading + Death Breath

Hannibal Barca: Cleave + Dual Master + Coercion

King Arthur: Oaken Guard + Shelter + Life-Link

If you have to, you can run this build with Saladin. Use all the same passives and start building King Arthur.
