The Forge: A Basic Introduction to Transmutation of Gold and Artifact Crafting

I have received a lot of questions via my question channel from new players asking about how the forge works: Should they transmute gold and lose resources? How to make artifacts? How to get the right artifact attributes? And so on. So in this little guide, we are going to take a look at how the forge works.

This will be a basic introduction to the forge, some tips and tricks, and a bit of mechanics on artifact crafting.

The Forge: Functions and Priorities

The Forge has three primary functions:

  1. Transmuting Gold
  2. Transmuting Artifact Materials
  3. Crafting Artifacts

Transmuting Gold

Yes! You should always be transmuting. Never let your forge have downtime. You are going to need a massive amount of gold for dragons and immortal upgrades, so always keep your forge working on something.

Prioritize transmuting gold and be mindful to time it correctly:

  • Always transmute gold while in your Dragon-Mint talents (which give you a 10% increased gold transmutation speed).
  • Plan out your transmutation of Artifact Materials and possibly speed them up just to get back to gold transmutation.
  • No downtime means never letting the forge sit idle!

Important Tip:

  • Upgrade your Forge level as a priority! It increases the Minting Boost timer as you upgrade. The Linting Proportion thresholds are extremely valuable to hit.

Artifact Crafting

What Are Artifacts?

Artifacts are extremely powerful items that you can equip to an immortal once they are maxed. “Maxed” means unlocking all seven stars/diamond ranks. After that, you unlock the Artifact Slot by spending an additional 120 immortal fragments. Then, and only then, can you equip an artifact.

Note that there are four different types of artifacts corresponding to the immortal types:

  • Magic (for mages)
  • Attack (for frontline attackers)
  • Ranged (for ranged attackers)
  • Support (for healers and support-type immortals)

How Do You Get Artifacts?

You need two things to craft artifacts:

  1. Schematics – Earned via events and the Mysterium. (See my standalone guide on schematic collections for details.)
  2. Materials – Forged in the Forge by spending a significant amount of resources.

Important Tip:

  • Prioritize your most important damage dealer with your first artifacts and artifact upgrades. Examples:
    • Water: Merlin
    • Earth: Alexander
    • Shadow: Himiko
    • Fire: Seondeok or Wu

Artifact Materials

There are four types of Materials, and each type of artifact requires two different materials. Take note of which materials you need the most and ensure you are not wasting resources on artifacts you do not need.

Artifact Rarity and Unlock Levels

Artifacts have different rarity levels:

  • Green (Common) – Unlocked at Forge Level 20
  • Blue (Uncommon) – Unlocked at Forge Level 25
  • Purple (Rare) – Unlocked at Forge Level 30
  • Orange (Epic) – Unlocked at Forge Level 35 (the most important one!)

Should I Wait Until I Can Craft Epic Artifacts?

No! If you can complete Stage 4 of Mysterium and earn green/blue/purple schematics, collect them for your best immortal and build! Even a blue or purple artifact can be an improvement early on.

Building the Artifacts: Attributes and Bonuses

How Do Artifact Attributes Work?

When crafting an artifact, its attributes roll randomly:

  1. One main attribute modifier (top stat)
  2. A range of affixes (sub-stats)

Read more here.

Each of these rolls is random from a pool of possible attributes. For example, if you want Physical Attack for your Ranged artifact on Seondeok, you will have to craft multiple artifacts until you get the desired roll. You are not crafting in vain even if you do not get good rolls, since you will need a lot of artifacts to upgrade both the level EXP and bonus skill once you get a powerful roll with a bonus.

Additionally, Artifacts can roll a Bonus Effect, such as:

  • Attack Artifacts: Physical Damage Boost or Attack Speed Bonus
  • Support Artifacts: Healing Boost or Energy Regen Boost

Since these are also random, you have to craft many artifacts to get the perfect one.

Important Tip:

  • I personally bank a lot of green schematics and materials. Then, when I’m ready to craft an Epic artifact, I first craft several greens until I get 3 or 4 green artifacts in a row without a Bonus Roll. I believe this increases the chance of getting a Bonus Roll on the Epic artifact that follows. (This is not officially confirmed, but it feels like it works!)

Conclusion

The Forge is one of the most essential features in the game for long-term growth. Whether you’re minting gold for dragon upgrades, transmuting artifact materials, or crafting artifacts, you should never let your forge sit idle. Mastering artifact crafting will give you a huge advantage in battles, so start collecting schematics and forging materials early on. And remember— patience is key when crafting the perfect artifact!
