Water with Hippolyta
This guide is part of my article series on water builds. If this build is not to your likeing, have a look at the rest of my builds on the water build page. I have multiple builds for any taste available, IB, PvE, arena/ToS builds and F2P/cheap builds.
This article is on Free 2 Play water without Attila but with Hippolyta instead. This build perform decent in PvP but really shine when doing bosses. You want to swap in combo + anger to Yoshi and root to Merlin for bosses but otherwise use the ToK skills below for gnome bosses and Spider.
This setup is pretty standard and revolves around pumping Merlins damage. By boosting the cast rate (energy regen) of Hippolyta in combination with the ToK skill Energy Suppresion, we are able to push back the first Khan ultimate (if we face him) so that we do not get wounds on us before dragon heals which is extreemly powerful. Onb top of that, and versus anyone else, being able to reduce enemy troop count with your ultimates before they hit with theirs means you will have the upper hand from the beginning (as their ultimates deal less damage on less troop count). Combined with water dragon freeze and fighting will, we have reasonable control of the battlefield even without Attila.
Moreover, Herald adds a very nice secondary DPS to the fight and boosts the damage output of both Yoshi and Hippo (Hippo will deal decent damage here).
The biggest drawback of using this as your main, is that you are unable to apply wounds, making fights versus earth and holy very difficult. This however, also means you are taking full advantage of the insanely strong Merlin (best mage in the game).
You want to run this passive loadout:
Merlin: Annihilation + Concentration + Fighting Master
Yoshi: Assist + Weakness + Resist
Herald: Fighting Will + Oaken Guard + Malice
Hippolytta: Death Breath + Burst + Coercion
There are small changes that needs to be made to the above default ToK setup depending on what you are fighting. Like if you are up against a lightning march with Khan Ysg, throw away Resist and put in energy suppresion. Changes you might want to consider are:
- If you do not fight vs control (water dragon, earth dragon, Richard, Attila, Bathony) = swap out of Fighting Master on Merlin and into a nova.
- If you fight Khan, try running energy suppresion instead of Resist. If your opponent does not have the 2.0 energy reg. tech you can get heal off before wounds debuff.
- If you feel you need sustain over damage, replace Coercion with Shelter.
