Elemental Protection Skills – Are They Worth Using?

A breakdown of one of the most underused skill families in Infinity Kingdom

🔍 What Are Elemental Protection Skills?

Elemental Protection Skills are situational Tower of Knowledge skills that provide passive effects tied to specific elements (Wind, Lightning, Earth, Water, and Fire). They:

  • Have a 55% chance to trigger every 12 seconds, lasting for 12 seconds.
  • Offer a base effect usable by any Immortal.
  • Provide a bonus effect when used on an Immortal that matches the skill’s element.

These effects sound appealing — but they rarely make the cut for serious PvP or high-tier play.

🧪 Skill-by-Skill Breakdown

🌪️ Wind Protection

  • Effect: 25% dodge rate boost (55% chance every 12s).
  • Bonus: If a Wind Immortal dodges, it gives a shield to a random ally (120% damage absorb).

Verdict: Too RNG-heavy. Dodge isn’t a reliable mechanic, and the shield goes to a random ally. Better to use Agile or skip altogether.

Lightning Protection

  • Effect: Grants a 40% chance for normal attacks to stun for 3s (triggered every 12s).
  • Bonus: If used by a Lightning Immortal, their next ultimate gets +30% damage after a stun.

Verdict: Decent base stun, but the chain of effects (trigger → stun → ultimate) is too situational. Can be fun for experimental builds or alt marches.

🌍 Earth Protection

  • Effect: Removes Silence/Root and grants 200 energy (55% chance every 12s).
  • Bonus: For Earth Immortals, every 100 energy regen = +5% ultimate damage.

Verdict: Cleanse effect is nice, but bonus is weak. Earth teams rely more on shields and sustain, not burst damage.

🌊 Water Protection

  • Effect: Reduces critical damage taken by 21%.
  • Bonus: If a Water Immortal receives crit damage, they heal for 45% of the damage taken.

Verdict: Could work versus crit-heavy teams (e.g. Seondeok), but inconsistent. Could support Merlin builds, but better survivability options exist.

🔥 Flame Protection

  • Effect: Increases critical hit rate by 6%.
  • Bonus: Fire Immortals get +21% crit damage on top.

Verdict: The most viable of the bunch. Can make Fire marches hit very hard — perfect for secondary marches focused on burst damage.

❌ Why They’re Rarely Used

  • Unreliable Activation: 55% chance means you can go entire battles without effects triggering at the right time.
  • Too Niche: Bonus effects only work on element-matching Immortals, limiting flexibility.
  • Better Options: Skills like Adrenaline Rush, Shelter, Weakness, or Rage Blessing offer consistent, team-wide value.

⚔️ When to Use Them (If At All)

Here are some niche cases where Elemental Protection Skills might be useful:

SkillNiche Use Case
Wind ProtectionDodge-based PvE setups, alternative shield builds
Lightning ProtectionCrowd control builds in secondary marches
Earth ProtectionSilence-heavy matchups (e.g. Mysterium bosses)
Water ProtectionAnti-crit defense vs burst teams
Flame ProtectionSecondary Fire burst marches with Wu or Hippolyta

🧙‍♂️ What About Holy, Shadow, or Chaos Protection?

These don’t exist yet — but here’s what they could look like:

  • Holy Protection: Reduces healing or energy regen for enemies.
  • Shadow Protection: Reduces magic damage taken and resists Silence.
  • Chaos Protection: Counters Confusion or random debuffs.

Would they change the meta? Probably not — but they’d be fun tools for creative builds.

🧾 Final Verdict

Elemental Protection Skills are themed and interesting, but rarely provide enough value to be worth a skill slot. Use them:

  • For fun or experimentation.
  • In lower-tier marches.
  • When you’re out of better options.

Otherwise, your skill slots are better spent on tried-and-true options that work in all situations, not just when RNG cooperates.
